Message I would ask him first if he is willing to take it to the Nissan dealer in his area, if he is get the name of the dealer and call them asking if you can pay for the inspection and talk to the mechanic that will be doing the inspection.

If he isn't willing to take it to the dealer I would say deal is off. Also I think a $100 deposit should be refundable if he decides not to take it to the dealer. The deposit is just a show of faith more than anything. If you are scared that someone will buy it out from under you tell him you will give him a $500 check to hold it till this weekend, if it doesn't check out as per what he said it was you get the check back and he is out a whole 3 days of not selling. He won't loose a sale in that amount of time, no reason for a non-refundable deposit.

Here is how my last transaction went:

Found the Z i've been looking for (original owner, slicktop, 60k miles). Asked all my tech questions via email and over the phone. Asked if he would be willing to take it to Greg Dupree (15mins from his house, lucky me) if I paid for the inspection. He said sure, after it was inspected and I knew it was the real deal I sent him a non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold it for 30 days. A bit long on the time, but seeing how I'm in TX and he was in Cali it takes a bit to get out there and arrange travel plans so it doesn't cost a fortune. Flew out in 3 weeks, drove the car, all checked out, went to his bank (and mine, verified this info before hand). Withdrew cash, put in his account, we went on our merry way. Done deal, 0 headaches, no regrets, both parties were satisfied.
